Advocating for Aggressive and Reactive Dogs

When you hear the word aggressive, what image comes to mind? Prior to having my own reactive and aggressive pup, I imagined a cold, mean, snarling canine. Now, I understand that this image couldn't be further from the truth.

​There are a lot of negative stigmas surrounding aggression and reactivity. Here, we seek to encourage conversations, build awareness, and break negative stereotypes regarding these behavioral issues.

What is it Really?

Aggression

Aggression is a physiological stress response, which causes an animal to respond in any manner necessary to stop the perceived threat.
This  triggers their flight or fight response. If they don’t feel they can flee the situation that's causing them to feel uneasy, they will fight.
​When a dog acts aggressively, it will continue to go on the offensive even after the trigger is outside range. 

Reactivity

Reactivity stems from a heightened state of emotion due to an environmental trigger or specific situation. 

When dogs exhibit reactive behavior, they are in a state of overstimulation and unable to respond to a situation or trigger appropriately.

All About Cinder

One thing that I have learned by having a aggressive and reactive fur baby is that every dog has a story. They require support, unconditional love, and immense patience.

​Cinder is not defined by her story or behavioral struggles; she is a perseverant sweetheart who deserves help in overcoming her fears and anxieties.
